In Indonesia art is commonly referred as tradition. The bound between art and tradition is so strong like what have been seen from the art in Bali itself. The art in Bali especially for the performing art is explored so far for tourism. Performing art in Bali can be said has been created in response of tourism and that tourism is becoming the agent of cultural production.
Several numbers of performing arts in Bali are an evolution of sacred performance in temples, like Barong Dance, Kecak Dance, Pendet Dance, etc. but due to the demand of tourism it modified to avoid the decrease of its sacred values. New creation of performing art also had been created once again to full fill the increasing demand of tourism in Bali. This island of the arts for western culture has been referred as the mysterious east, the land who full of thing to discover but for the Asian tourist, Bali perhaps stand as a nostalgia land. The place where they can run from their battle fields life in their homeland which also refers this island as the second homeland for many people in the world.
