Drama is the specific mode of fiction represented in performance. In Bali drama is often referred as Drama Gong. This kind of drama is relatively young, had been created through modern drama integrated elements from Balinese art and tradition. Commonly it is a fuse of western theater with traditional theater of Bali. Drama Gong become its name since in its performance every players movement also its dramatic atmosphere change is accompanied by gamelan gong – traditional music of Bali –
This kind of drama is created by Anak Agung Gede Raka Payadnya from abianbase, Gianyar. The creator confessed that drama gong was created by mixed traditional dance drama elements as in Sendratari, Arja, Prembon with Sandiwara –Theater – and makes it appear as modern prembon – mixing art –
Drama Gong is kind of drama that performed characters from romantic story like in Panji (Malat), Sampik Ingtai and several classic stories from outside of Bali. In performing the story, the actors and actresses instead of dancing like many other classic drama in Bali, they are totally act realistically with verbal Balinese dialogs. The actors wear Balinese traditional clothes suits their social status from the character they performed as well as the dramatic atmosphere is accompanied by gamelang gong kebyar.
