“50th Birthday Bash” at Villa Massilia

We stayed here for a week recently for my sister in laws 50th Birthday celebrations. We hired the whole complex of villas as there was 22 people – which included 5 children. It was perfect for a large group (even a smaller group would be fine also). The space and layout of the villas was great as being with a large group you could go off and have alone time and you wouldn’t hear noise from the other villas (not that we were that loud!!). Each villa had its own pool so if you did have children with you and wanted a quiet swim you could still do that. The first morning we had breakfast cooked in one villa but with 22 hungry people at once we thought that perhaps it would be better to have them cook it in separate villas each monring at allocated times as it was a bit easier for them rather than trying to cook larger amounts all at once. This worked perfectly for all of us. You have to remember that we they cook for our breakfast is not what they eat so quantity wise you have to be a bit give and take anyway – but we found there was enough.

There were a couple of times that mix up happens – but hey you are on holiday so nothing major to stress about and it was sorted out quickly and efficiently. They were clean and they staff came around twice each day to check on things as well as at night light the mozzie coils and spray each room and turn down the bed. The food was absolutely to die for – the chicken curry is the best. We had a birthday seafood dinner and that was brought out promptly and well worth it for the amount it cost for 22 people would not pay for 2 people back in Perth!. The staff came at regular intervals and asked if you needed anything, They organised for washing to be done – this came back a couple of days later but you have to remember this is Bali – not drycleaners back in Perth – Bali/holiday time.

Although if we had asked I’m sure it would have come back sooner but we werent in a hurry. They can organise tours, taxis, drivers etc. You get bottled water in the bathroom each day plus there is also a water cooler in each of the kitchens (large ones like in offices) that you have full access to whenever you want. It open plan apart from the bedrooms and this is just perfect for Bali – at first I thought oh no its too hot but being high ceilings it really wasn’t and anyway if you are hot just jump in the pool. Each pool area had its own cabana and daybeds and towels were refreshed each day for the pool. The bathroom is open air but very well designed.

You can stay in an eat – you just tell them what you want or choose from the menu – as long as you didn’t tell them at the last minute as they need to go out and buy the food for you fresh – it’s not a problem. They normally ask you in the morning if you think you would be staying in Villa Massilia. You only pay for the cost of the food which was very little – one lunch for all of us only cost about $4 each!! Would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone – even if the other villas were let out separately each has its own entrance so its not a problem. It’s walking distance to main Seminyak road and 5 mins walk to Ku De Ta.

Once you get your bearings you work out which laneway is quicker depending on which end of Seminyak you want to be. We even walked from their to main Kuta area and its a beautiful walk and much quicker than a taxi would have been. whilst there have been less than favourable reports on this we didn’t encounter any problems and would all go back again – it was even mentioned to make it an annual family gathering.
